As the season of longer days, endless ice cream, and fun water activities arrives, the danger of extreme sun exposure also increases.
Summer's extreme sun rays can increase the risk of sun damage, burn, and premature ageing, but using correct measures to protect and nourish your skin barriers can fix it all.
Why we need sun protection
The sun emits ultraviolet (UV) rays, which, if taken in moderation, can provide vitamin D to our bodies, but if exposed for too long, can cause problems such as
- Breaking down the skin’s collagen and elastin, making the skin less elastic
- Darkening acne spots and scars
- Causing sunburns, hyperpigmentation and wrinkles.
Therefore, it becomes essential for us to protect our skin, especially if we’re prone to breakouts or trying to fade acne marks. A strong, intense acne barrier protection routine, including cleansing, hydration, spot treatment, and sun protection, can make all the difference.
How to protect your skin
At AcneStar, we practice regenerative skincare - integrating nature, science, and consistency to protect your skin's healthy barrier function. Whether you are managing active acne or seeking to lessen post-acne scars, it is essential to keep your skin barrier intact and to treat spots as they arise.

Sunscreen
Always protect your skin by applying sunscreen. Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before going out and keep re-applying it every 3- 4 hours. On days when it is not too sunny outside or you are staying inside, apply it just once.
Make sure that you are applying a sunscreen that has SPF 30 or more and applying it in the correct amount by using the 2-finger method.
Cleansing
Protect your skin from all that excess oil, sweat and pollution by using a facewash that gently washes and exfoliates your skin. We recommend using AcneStar’s facewash that effectively removes dirt, excess oil, impurities and exfoliates your skin, helping to control acne. It is suited for all skin types and can be used daily.
Spot protection
Although sunscreen can prevent skin damage, it is not enough to heal and protect the cne spot on acne-prone skin. For that, you need spot treatments that include ingredients like nicotinamide, salicylic acid, etc, which can help to reduce inflammation and reduce extra sebum. AcneStar Gel is specially formulated to regulate excess sebum, prevent clogged pores, and reduce acne.
Seek shade
The time between 10 am and 4 pm is when the sun is at its peak. Avoid going out during this time of day, as it can increase your chances of sunburn.
If you cannot avoid these hours, make sure to take shade by carrying an umbrella.
Antioxidant-rich food
Direct exposure to the sun can damage skin cells, so to neutralize and repair skin, eat foods that are rich in antioxidants like colourful fruits and vegetables such as berries, spinach, kale, and tomatoes; and beverages like green tea and coffee. These foods can help reduce inflammation and support your skin’s health.
